Located near Boğazkale in Çorum Province, Hattusa is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers an extraordinary look at Hittite architecture, religion, city planning, and daily life.

Explore monumental city gates, ancient temples, defensive walls, and the remarkable Yazılıkaya Open-Air Sanctuary, where reliefs of Hittite deities were carved into the natural rock.

This private or small-group day trip is ideal for history enthusiasts, archaeology lovers, and travelers looking for an unusual historical experience from Cappadocia.

Why Visit Hattusa from Cappadocia?

Cappadocia is famous for its geological landscapes and rock-cut heritage, but Central Anatolia has a much deeper historical story to tell.

A journey to Hattusa connects Cappadocia with the world of the Hittites, who established a powerful kingdom in Anatolia during the Bronze Age.

At the archaeological site, you can see monumental gates, temples, fortifications, and other remains that reveal the scale and importance of the ancient capital.

Cappadocia to Hattusa Tour Itinerary

07:30–08:00 – Hotel Pickup

Your driver will pick you up from your Cappadocia hotel in the morning and begin the journey toward Hattusa Ancient City.

The tour is operated in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, with private transportation or small-group options available depending on your booking.

Scenic Drive Through Central Anatolia

Leave Cappadocia behind and travel through the countryside of Central Anatolia.

The journey provides views of rural landscapes, agricultural areas, villages, and the changing scenery of the Anatolian plateau.

Hattusa Ancient City

Arrive at the archaeological site of Hattusa, the ancient capital of the Hittite Empire.

Walk through the remains of this once-powerful city and discover how the Hittites built a sophisticated urban center with monumental architecture, defensive walls, temples, and ceremonial spaces.

Lion Gate

Begin exploring Hattusa’s monumental entrances at the Lion Gate.

The gate takes its name from the carved lion figures that once guarded the entrance and remains one of the most recognizable features of the archaeological site.

King’s Gate

Continue to the King’s Gate, another impressive entrance within the ancient city.

The surviving relief and architectural remains provide a glimpse into the artistic and ceremonial character of Hittite architecture.

Great Temple

Explore the remains of the Great Temple, one of the most important religious structures at Hattusa.

The complex includes large courtyards, chambers, and storage areas, offering an insight into the religious and administrative life of the Hittite capital.

Ancient City Walls

Walk along sections of Hattusa’s extensive defensive system.

The city walls demonstrate the importance of fortification to the ancient capital and reveal the scale of Hattusa as a major political and military center.

Yazılıkaya Open-Air Sanctuary

Continue to Yazılıkaya, a short distance from the main archaeological area.

This remarkable open-air rock sanctuary contains carved reliefs depicting Hittite gods and other figures. The sanctuary provides an important insight into Hittite religious beliefs and ceremonial practices.

Walking between the natural rock formations and ancient reliefs creates a very different experience from the monumental remains of Hattusa itself.

Local Lunch

Take a break for lunch at a local restaurant in or around Boğazkale.

Lunch is not included in the standard tour, giving you flexibility over your meal choice.
